The first NPO in Russia on the Caspian Sea subject

In February 2010, in Moscow was created the first in Russia (and, possibly, in the whole world) non-profit organization that will specifically address political and socio-economic problems of the Caspian Sea and of the states of the Caspian region. The director of this non-profit organization «Institute of the Caspian Cooperation» (ICC) is Sergey Mikheev, a Russian political scientist.
The main object of the Institute is: monitoring of political, socio-economic and environmental situation in the Caspian Sea and adjacent regions; implementation of informational, scientific and humanitarian projects aimed at strengthening of the stability and cooperation in the Caspian Sea region and adjacent regions; implementation of projects to strengthen the cooperation in such spheres as effective development, utilization and protection of natural resources of the Caspian region in order to preserve the unique natural resources of the Caspian Sea.

It is planned that the main activities of the ICC will be:

- Promoting the initiation and information support of information, social and cultural events aimed at strengthening the cooperation in the development, use and protection of natural resources of the Caspian region and the Caspian Sea;

- Promoting the development and execution of projects aimed at strengthening the cooperation in the development, use and protection of natural resources of the Caspian region and the Caspian Sea;

- Assisting in organization and coordination of information campaigns for any initiative aimed at preserving stability in the region and protecting the natural resources the Caspian region and the Caspian Sea;

- Promotion of information and other support of any efforts of international cultural, religious and community organizations aimed at strengthening the cooperation in the Caspian region;

- Integration of Information Space of Caspian Sea region and monitoring of political, socio-economic and environmental situation in the Caspian Sea region and adjacent regions;

- Promotion of information support for actions aimed at preserving the historical status of the Caspian Sea region and the preservation of its political and socio-economic stability;

- Information support of initiatives, proposed by people, political parties and public organizations in order to retain stability and to develop the cooperation with regard to the conservation and protection of natural resources of the Caspian Sea;

- Promotion of information technology and PR-consulting support for political and social organizations;

- Cooperation with the media;

- Cooperation with the authorities, political parties and public organizations of the Caspian Sea region;

- Creation and support of online information and analytical site «Caspian factor» (http://www.sasfactor.com) on the stated theme;

- Publication of information and analytical materials on the stated theme;

- Organization of scientific conferences, seminars and trainings on topics related to the subject of the Caspian region.

One of the first works of the Institute of the Caspian Cooperation (ICС) is the publication of the analytical report «The Consolidation of the potential of the Caspian Five - Problems and Prospects». In the nearest plans of the Institute is the release of the continuation of this report, which will develop the ideas of the need to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in the Caspian region.

The post-Soviet «troika» (group of three) is the basis for CECO

The Russian project of the Caspian Economic Cooperation Organization (CECO) meets for the present a cautious attitude of other countries in the region. At least, it is extremely difficult at the moment to join in this project all five states of Caspian region. There is only one solution - to create the organization with those states that are ready to it. The others will join in later.
