The Russian project of the Caspian Economic Cooperation Organization (CECO) meets for the present a cautious attitude of other countries in the region. At least, it is extremely difficult at the moment to join in this project all five states of Caspian region. There is only one solution - to create the organization with those states that are ready to it. The others will join in later.

The first NPO in Russia on the Caspian Sea subject

In February 2010, in Moscow was created the first in Russia (and, possibly, in the whole world) non-profit organization that will specifically address political and socio-economic problems of the Caspian Sea and of the states of the Caspian region. The director of this non-profit organization «Institute of the Caspian Cooperation» (ICC) is Sergey Mikheev, a Russian political scientist.

Ice floes in Azerbaijani sector of Caspian Sea

"Ice has formed in the Caspian Sea off the coast of Nabran. Ice can also be seen off Siyazan. There are 10-metre long ice floes off Siyazan, 5-6 m floes off Nabran, 20-30 m floes off Tagiyev and 30-40 m off Sumgayit," the director of the Ecology Ministry's Climate Change and Ozone Centre, Gulmali Suleymanov, told APA.

Azerbaijan used only 48.8% of Caspian Sea fishing quota in 2011

Last year the Azerbaijani fishermen managed to use only 48.8% of fishing quotas they were provided.

The State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan informs that over the past year 141 legal entities and individuals received total quota for 2,174 tons of fish, and caught only 1,061 tons. They managed, in particular, to catch 485 tons of sardines, 152 tons of herring, 139 tons of mullet, 72 tons of bream, 82 tons of Arctic cisco (kutum).
